Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment by adding new affixes. They can also boost its base stats or add additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute benefit, or extra effect, while the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, or found in loot, thrown away by enemies, or obtained as a reward from missions or chests. Some upgrades additionally have special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before you can upgrade.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the player must select it, and then click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be as well as the required material or component needed for the upgrade to take place.

There are three kinds that are universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be used on any kind of equipment. They offer a lesser bonus than upgrade components that have a specific type restriction. Infusions are only placed in gear that is ascended and legendary equipment are exactly the same as gems, but offer higher bonuses and cannot be placed in any other equipment. If a player upgrades a gathering tool and replaces glyphs with another glyph the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component with a glyph, it will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions, which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important differences from earlier versions. Gear is now classified into tracks, and each item is able to be upgraded as many times before it is "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials required do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a handful of key items and maximize their impact, instead of spreading cost of upgrades across several pieces.

This allows the item to receive new upgrade components and a higher chance of success. This bonus is referred to as the Artisan's Energy, and it will reset to zero in the event of failure, or increases when the upgrade is successful.

Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its maximum level it is able to be given affixes that boost its attributes. The amount of affixes available will depend on the item's class. For instance an uncommon or exclusive weapon with a base that is standard will have only two affixes, whereas a legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade requires an amount of Flightstones and crests to complete depending on the item's current level and the item slot it's in. Typically, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other types of equipment.

If an item does not reach its maximum level, the NPC gives the player the choice to transfer it to a new character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This procedure can take as long as two hours and cost the same amount of material. However, it has a lower success rate.

To measure the height of a building engineers utilize a level to compare the measurement with a known reference point such as a benchmark or the elevation of the ground. Rerolling

Rerolling refers to the process of changing an item's upgrade components. It is an important aspect of the game and can drastically increase the strength of an item, damage, or other attributes. This can be done via the item menu or using the Reroll button on an upgraded item. Rerolling items can be expensive and should be handled with care.

Reroll tokens are earned by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can then be used to upgrade the original item or another similar item. Recyclable items have an indicator that indicates the level of upgrade. The amount of level that has been filled is contingent on the rarity and the upgrade cost of the item.

In the past, certain upgrade items were affixed with priority that made them easier to roll for than others. This meant that you'd receive the stats that mattered most to your build often than other items. This included stats such as the armor's total armour, thorns and the control impaired duration stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.

This has changed since the last patch. Priority affixes are no longer required and all upgrades will have the same odds of rolling for each stat. This could be good or bad, based on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.

Each upgraded item may have a unique bonus that boosts the power of the item by a set percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are added in addition to the standard affixes. The more you upgrade your product, the higher your chances of receiving a unique bonus.

The game also comes with number set that grants the player a bonus if three or four upgraded items from the set are equipped on an item. This is a good method of giving the character more power without spending a lot of money.

Many players are known to reroll their weapons and equipment, especially in the early stages. This is because rerolling can give players a faster route to becoming a strong character and allows them to climb high tiers and progress the game much more quickly.

Sets

Upgrades can also be done to bring certain items up to parity with the tiers. For example the Immortal King set has a vast range of levels, ranging from 29 to 76. Upgrades to lower level items can improve their defense, and increase their competitiveness when it comes to damage.

Clicking the Upgrade button will show the attributes of the item and the items required to upgrade it. The attributes of the item will be displayed together with any required items. For instance, the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials and 250 Enchanted Dust, and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Alternately, players can go to the Leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to find out the requirements for upgrading specific items.

In general, weapons and armor are more valuable when they are updated. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons with spells or glyphs that damage weapons. This will result in a significant improvement in their stats. The armor that has a new appearance will also benefit from this because its defense will increase as it goes from purple to gold.
